2026 Robertson Cup Championship Dates Announced
The Allan Cup Hockey League today announced the schedule for the 2026 J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals. This year's championship series will see the defending regular season champion Stoney Creek Tigers square off against the reigning Robertson Cup and Allan Cup champion Wentworth Gryphins in a best-of-five series.
Both Stoney Creek and Wentworth swept their respective semi-final series three games to none — the Tigers over the Dundas Real McCoys and the Gryphins over the St. Catharines Saints — to earn their places in the championship round. It is the third time in the last four seasons that the teams have met to battle for the championship trophy.
The Finals will kick off on Saturday, March 21st at Stoney Creek Arena in Stoney Creek. Game 2 shifts to Flamborough at the Harry Howell Arena on Thursday, March 26th. Game 3 returns to Stoney Creek on Saturday, March 28th, with Game 4 (if necessary) scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd in Flamborough. Should a deciding fifth game be required, it will be played on Saturday, April 4th in Stoney Creek. Game times at Stoney Creek Arena are set for 6:30 p.m., while games at the Harry Howell Arena will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 19-3-1-1 record to claim the regular season title, while Wentworth finished second at 17-6-0-1. In head-to-head play, Stoney Creek won five of the six regular season meetings, with their only loss coming in November on Wentworth's home ice at the Harry Howell Arena.
Offensively, Cordell James led the Tigers with 11 goals and 40 points, finishing third in league scoring, while Alex Hutchings paced the Gryphins and topped the entire league with 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists).
Between the pipes, Wentworth utilized three goaltenders during the regular season. Dawson Carty went 5-0 in his appearances, but it was Matthew Camilleri who took over in the playoffs, backstopping all three wins against St. Catharines and allowing just 8 goals on 105 shots. For Stoney Creek, Daniel Svedin and Matt Sagrott shared the bulk of the workload in the regular season, combining for 18 wins. In the post-season, Svedin entered the series against the Real McCoys for the final two games, allowing 6 goals on 78 shots to help close out the series.
While the regular season numbers give a slight edge to the Stoney Creek Tigers, no one should count out the Wentworth Gryphins when the puck drops on March 21st. This series has all the makings of one of the most fiercely contested J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals in recent memory — and it could very well go the full five games.
