Bonello’s Natural Hat Trick All McCoys Need
For the first time ever, an ACHL team hosted an Ontario Elite Hockey League team on home ice as the Dundas Real McCoys took on the Durham Thundercats at the J.L. Grightmire Arena on Sunday afternoon. Fans in attendance would see Dundas’ Brad Bonello pick up ten points in the 13-1 win.
Bonello opened the scoring, netting a natural hat trick in the first two minutes and 18 seconds of the first period. From there, the McCoys picked up first period tallies from Phil Brewer, Cam Fergus and Nick McMullen.
In the second period, it was much of the same. Dundas got goals from Igor Gongalsky, Justin DaSilva, Nolan Sheeran and Bonello’s fourth of the contest. The only blemish for the McCoys came with 57 seconds left in the middle stanza when Brody LeBlanc got the puck past netminder Ryan DeMelo, breaking up the shutout.
Dundas rounded out the scoring with three goals in the third from Trevor Atkinson, Bonello and Simon Mangos.
Mike Mole got the win, making 11 saves in just under 30 minutes of work. DeMelo finished off the game, allowing just one goal on 25 shots. Vance Meyer took the loss for Durham, facing 42 shots.
Dundas is back in action on Thursday night when they head up the road to Flamborough to take on the Wentworth Gryphins at the Harry Howell Arena starting at 7:30pm.
