Cambridge Edges Dundas For Second Win

A rivalry was renewed on Friday night as the Dundas Real McCoys made their first visit of the season to Cambridge to face the Hornets. The last time the teams met was February 26th, 2006 with Cambridge winning 6-4 on home ice.

Noah Czyzewski scored the game's opening goal 4:39 into the contest, giving the McCoys the early lead. However, Kyle Heffernan leveled the score at one just over four minutes later. Dundas would regain the lead 67 seconds later when Jess Hackett scored on the power play. Heffernan completed the hat trick with a pair of goals in the final 8:32 of the frame, giving Cambridge a 3-2 lead.

In the second period, the Hornets continued to score, taking a three-goal lead after Brett Wilson's third of the year and Alex Mourani's first goal of the campaign. While the home side would take the lead to the dressing room at the intermission, their lead was cut to just one after Aaron Smith scored twice late in the period.

Like the Hornets, Dundas came out of the gates scoring a pair of goals to being the period with Hackett and Smith notching the markers for a 6-5 lead. Three minutes later, Jason Pitton scored with the man advantage to tie the game for the Hornets. Wilson then scored with 4:17 remaining in regulation to give Cambridge the win.

Smith and Heffernan led their respective squads with four points (3G, 1A) on the night.

Mason Kameka earned the win for the Hornets, stopping 34 of 40 shots he faced. Ryan DeMelo got the start for the McCoys, allowing seven goals on 51 shots.
