Dundas Doubles Up Saints

In the final home opener, the St. Catharines Saints welcomed the Dundas Real McCoys to the Merritton Centennial Arena on Saturday night. The McCoys would have six different goal scorers in the contest as they picked up a 6-3 win over St. Catharines.

The Saints would get the home crowd going late in the first period when Ryan Donovan scored his first of the year and the franchise’s first goal on home ice with five minutes remaining in the frame. However, Dundas would take advantage of a late power play to even the score at one on Cam Fergus’ first of the year.

The McCoys kept their foot on the pedal as the second period started, getting a power play marker at 2:06 from Paul Cianfini to go up by two before Holden Doggett extended the Dundas lead to three at the 9:01 mark of the middle stanza. Brendan Guignard would stop the bleeding for the home side, picking up his first of the year 71 seconds later and cutting the lead back to one.

Jess Hackett would score his fourth of the year for Dundas with just under seven minutes remaining in the second to give his team a two-goal lead again, but the Saints would score on a late period man advantage with Justin Brack pulling the teams within a goal of each other.

The Real McCoys would put the game away in the third as they scored the only two goals of the period, with Ralph Taggart and Mackenzie Wood scoring shorthanded markers 56 seconds apart. Wood would finish the night with a goal and four assists.

Ryan DeMelo picked up his second win in as many nights, stopping 35 of 38 shots in the contest for Dundas, while Trevor Micucci was pelted with 55 shots, stopping 49 of them.

The same two teams will do it all again on Friday, November 21st at 7:30pm but the venue will change to the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas.
