Dundas Stuns Tigers In Game 1

Dundas Real McCoys scored five unanswered goals, including four in the last 20 minutes, to defeat the Stoney Creek Tigers 5-1 in Game 1 of the semi-final series on Saturday. Mackenzie Wood netted the game winner, his first of two goals that night.

Stoney Creek opened the scoring on Joel Knight’s goal at 6:55 of the opening period of play. That was the lone goal of the frame, which stood until Slatter Doggett got the equalizer for the McCoys at 11:06 of the second period. Before the teams could go to the second intermission, tempers started to heat but no penalties were handed out.

The third period saw Dundas take full control of the game. Wood scored the first two goals of the period, shorthanded at 7:56 and even strength just over four minutes later. Paul Cianfini and Phil Brewer added insurance goals with the latter being scored while Dundas was shorthanded.

Ryan Demelo secured the win for the Real McCoys, conceding one goal from 45 shots while Daniel Svedin took the loss for Stoney Creek, with 42 saves.

Game 2 of the series will be played at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas on Friday, March 14th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm. With a win on Friday, the McCoys would advance to the Robertson Cup Finals against the Wentworth Gryphins. If Game 3 is needed, it would be played on Saturday, March 15th at Gateway Ice Centre starting at 6:30pm.
