Gryphins Break Through with Dominant Road Win

Wentworth snapped their mini losing streak on Saturday night with a decisive 7-3 victory over the St. Catharines Saints on the road. Tyler VanKleef starred for the Gryphins, collecting five points including a hat trick.

The Saints opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first period when Cam Stewart notched his second goal of the year. However, VanKleef responded with his first of the night at 14:46, and Brett Flemming gave Wentworth the lead at 16:22—a lead they would never relinquish.

VanKleef completed his hat trick in the second period, scoring twice in a blistering 16-second span to extend Wentworth's advantage to 4-1. Cory Caruso added an insurance marker at 12:22 before St. Catharines answered back on Tory McLean's sixth goal of the season.

The Gryphins continued to pour it on in the third period, with Matt MacLeod scoring his 15th of the year. Justin Brack closed out the scoring with his 10th of the season for the Saints.

Matthew Camilleri earned his fifth win of the season for Wentworth, turning aside an impressive 50 shots. Trevor Micucci absorbed the loss, allowing seven goals on 40 shots.

St. Catharines will return to action on Family Day Monday when they face the Stoney Creek Tigers in the West Lincoln Showcase at West Lincoln Community Centre in Smithville, Ontario. Puck drop is at 2:30 p.m. Wentworth is off until Thursday, February 19th, when they host the Dundas Real McCoys at Harry Howell Arena in a rematch of Friday's shootout loss. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
