Gryphins Double Up Tigers In Regular Season Finale

Saturday night saw the 2024-25 ACHL regular season concluded after the Wentworth Gryphins scored twice in the third period against the Stoney Creek Tigers to complete the comeback victory. Matt MacLeod led the way for the Gryphins, scoring the game winning goal and adding a helper while Stoney Creek’s Dylan Madge netted both goals for the home side.

Madge scored the lone goal of the opening period of play at the 1:48 mark, giving the Tigers the early lead.

That lead stood up until 4:41 of the second period when Mark Corbett evened the game at one for Wentworth. However, just under three minutes later Madge would score his fifth of the year, an unassisted shorthanded marker, to regain the lead for the home side. Before the middle stanza would end, Jason Popek notched his fourth of the season, once again tying the score for the Gryphins.

In the third period, it was all Wentworth who would outshoot the Tigers 10-2 in the frame. Two of those ten shots would find the back of the net late in the period with MacLeod getting the game winner at 16:28 and Cory Conacher adding an insurance goal with 76 seconds left on the clock.

In net, Dawson Carty picked up his third win in as many starts, making 24 saves. At the other end of the ice, Daniel Svedin started the game but came out after two periods, stopping 30 of 32 shots on net. Tymen Edelkoort took over for the third period and took the loss, allowing two goals on ten shots.

With the regular season schedule now concluded, the Robertson Cup Playoffs will get underway. The first-round schedule for the semi-final series between the Stoney Creek Tigers and Dundas Real McCoys will be released on Sunday March 2nd at 2pm.
