A five goal third period powered the Wentworth Gryphins to a 7-3 victory on home ice against the Dundas Real McCoys on Thursday night. Troy MacLean picked up the game winning goal, while Kyle Lewis had a goal and an assist in the contest.

Dundas opened the scoring on Igor Gongalsky’s goal 5:22 into the game. The Gryphins would even the score and take the lead in a 37 second span on Marc-Anthony Simonetta’s fourth and Brett Flemming’s first goal of the season.

The McCoys tied the game at two just before the 11-minute mark of the second when Nathan Longpre scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal for the only goal of the stanza.

Wentworth took the lead early in the final period when Jason Popek scored his third of the year. From there, the Gryphins didn’t look back, adding what became the game winner at 7:07 off McClean’s stick. Trevor Atkinson did get Dundas back within a goal, but Wentworth rattled off three goals over the 11:30 of the game from Alex Hutchings, Matt MacLeod and Lewis.

Dawson Carty earned the win for Wentworth, making 33 saves on 36 shots. For the McCoys, Mike Mole stopped 24 shots he faced in the loss.

Dundas will be back in action on Saturday November 30th when they head to Stoney Creek to face the back-to-back, defending Robertson Cup Champion Tigers at Gateway Ice Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30pm. The Gryphins are off until December 7th when they face Stoney Creek on the road.
