Wentworth scored on two of their three power play attempts on Thursday night to help them to a 3-2 victory in Game 1 of the Robertson Cup Finals over the Dundas Real McCoys. Both power play markers for the Gryphins would come off Alex Hutchings’ stick, including the game winner.

The Gryphins took the early lead, getting on the scoreboard 2:11 into the contest on Mike Lomas’ goal. Then with the period winding down, Hutchings got his first of the game, but Tim Carr would get the McCoys back within one with 22 seconds remaining in the first.

Dundas’ Phil Brewer would score the lone goal of the middle stanza at the 8:11 mark to even the score at two.

In the third, it took 24 seconds on the power play for Hutchings to get his second of the game and take the lead for Wentworth. The McCoys had chances to even the score but were unable solve Joseph Murdaca in the Gryphins goal crease.

Murdaca picked up the win, making 34 saves on 36 shots while Ryan Demelo allowed three goals on 34 shots, taking the loss.

Game 2 of the series will be played at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas on Friday, March 28th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm. With a win, the Gryphins will capture their first ever Robertson Cup. If Game 3 is needed, it would be played on Thursday, April 3rd at the Harry Howell Arena starting at 7:30pm.
