Hore and the Gryphins Soar

Wentworth made a statement on Thursday night, cruising to a dominant 6-1 victory over the Dundas Real McCoys at the Harry Howell Arena to push their win total to 17 on the season. Matt Hore bookended the scoring with a pair of goals, setting the tone early and putting the finishing touch on a thoroughly one-sided affair.

The Gryphins wasted little time taking control, effectively putting the game to bed before the first period was even over. Hore got things started at 16:48, and just 48 seconds later, Marc-Anthony Simonetta made it 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season — a lead that would prove to be the game winner.

Wentworth kept their foot on the gas in the second, with Ryan Foss converting on the power play just 103 seconds in to stretch the lead to 3-0. Holden Doggett provided a brief ray of hope for Dundas with 10:35 remaining in the middle frame, but it would be the McCoys' only mark on the scoresheet.

The Gryphins poured it on in the third, getting power play strikes from Brett Flemming, a shorthanded tally from Kevin Harvey, and Hore's second of the night to cap the scoring and complete a commanding performance.

Between the pipes, Dawson Carty was rock-solid, stopping 37 of 38 shots to earn his fifth consecutive win to open the season. Ryan DeMelo had a tough night on the other end, surrendering six goals on 50 shots in taking the loss for Dundas.

The Gryphins return to action Friday night, heading to Cambridge to face the Hornets at the historic Galt Arena Gardens, with puck drop set for 8:00 pm. The McCoys, meanwhile, won't play again until February 27th, when they close out their regular season at home against the St. Catharines Saints at the J.L. Grightmire Arena on First Responders Night. That game is slated to begin at 7:30 pm.
