Hornets Flip the Script, Beat Saints 6–4 After Home-Ice Loss
Following a home loss to the St. Catharines Saints on Friday evening, the Cambridge Hornets secured a 6-4 road victory on Saturday night. The win allowed the Hornets to split the weekend home-and-home series with St. Catharines and marked their first victory since November 8th. Steve MacAulay led the offensive effort with two goals and three assists, while Brett Wilson and Owen England each contributed one goal and two assists.
The opening period featured one goal from each side. MacAulay opened the scoring for Cambridge at 8:42, but Matthew Riva responded for the Saints just 19 seconds later to level the contest.
The second period proved to be the most productive, with six combined goals. MacAulay restored Cambridge's lead 3:14 into the frame, followed by Kolton Maguire's second goal of the season that extended the Hornets' advantage to two. St. Catharines narrowed the deficit at 8:38 when Niki Petti scored his second of the year.
Cambridge re-established their two-goal cushion on tallies from Wilson and England, with England's marker at 16:00 standing as the game-winner. Riva added his second goal of the contest before the period expired, sending the teams to the second intermission with Cambridge leading 5-3.
The third period saw single goals from Cambridge's Logan Schmidt and St. Catharines' Wilson to complete the scoring.
Marc Williams made 44 saves on 48 shots to earn the victory for Cambridge, while Trevor Micucci stopped 25 of 31 shots in the loss for St. Catharines.
