Hutchings and Gryphins Down Dundas

All but two Gryphins players found themselves with a point on Friday night in a 13-6 win over the Real McCoys at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas. Nine Wentworth players would pick up multiple points in the contest with Alex Hutchings leading the way with three goals and two assists. McKenzie Wood would figure into all six of the Dundas goals, scoring twice and adding four assists.

Wentworth jumped out to a huge lead in the first period, scoring five times, three of which came in a 2:09 time span. Mike Lomas opened the scoring just prior to the four-minute mark of the period before Hutchinson scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season 36 seconds apart. Matt MacLeod and Kyle Lewis rounded out the scoring for the visitors in the opening frame, but Mackenzie Wood got the goose egg off the board for the McCoys with 14 seconds left in the period.

It felt like Oprah was in attendance for this game, as goals were being handed out to almost everyone. Nathan Longpre scored on the power play at 2:41 of the second, cutting the Gryphins lead to three, but that lead was restored by Tyler Rollo at 5:19 before Hutchings completed the hat trick and scored the eventual game winner.

Phil Brewer got one of the goals back for Dundas, however, Cory Conacher notched a pair of goals before the middle stanza ended and sent the teams to the dressing room with Wentworth leading 9-3.

The third period saw much of the same as the second period in terms of scoring. Wentworth would collect goals from Tyler Vankleef, Lewis, Rollo and Remy Giftopoulos while the McCoys got goas from Wood, Cam Fergus and Cody Goloubef.

Joseph Murdaca made his ACHL debut with the Gryphins. He would make 34 saves in the victory. Mike Mole took the loss, making just 8 saves on 16 shots over 32 minutes in the Dundas net. Ryan Demelo finished off the game, allowing 5 goals on 34 shots.

Both teams will be back in action next week. Wentworth will return to the Harry Howell Arena to host the Stoney Creek Tigers on Thursday January 23rd. The next night Stoney Creek will head to Dundas to faceoff against the Real McCoys at the J.L. Grightmire Arena. Games on both nights are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.

Note
With Friday night’s scoring, Hutchings moved into the league lead with 14 points on the season. Rollo and Vankleef are both one point back of Hutchings with 13 points, along with Stoney Creek’s Cordell James. Also, the same three Gryphins players have all moved into a three-way tie for second in the ACHL with seven goals, just one behind Jrdan Gignac of the Tigers.
