Cordell James scored once and assisted on three others, leading the Stoney Creek Tigers to a 7-3 victory over the Dundas Real McCoys on Friday night at J.L. Grightmire Arena. Seven different Tigers found the back of the net in the win, while Dundas received goals from three different players.
The McCoys struck first when Mackenzie Wood notched his 15th goal of the season, but Cordell James answered just over three minutes later to tie the game at one. Ralph Taggart restored Dundas's lead before the period ended.
Stoney Creek erupted for four goals in the second period, including three in the opening three minutes of the frame. Mike Ruberto converted on the power play just 37 seconds in, and Josh Ranalli gave the Tigers their first lead 51 seconds later. Cole Poliziani added his fifth of the season nearly 90 seconds after that, scoring what would prove to be the game-winner.
Mitchell Reid capped Stoney Creek's scoring in the middle frame at 11:14. Dundas clawed back late in the second when Brad Bonello capitalized on a power play opportunity, stuffing the puck past Tigers netminder Matt Sagrott, who had lost sight of it. The goal brought the McCoys back within two.
Kyle Essery and Dylan Madge added third-period insurance markers to seal the victory for the Tigers.
Sagrott earned the win with 40 saves on 43 shots, while Mike Mole took the loss for Dundas despite stopping 41 of 48 shots.
Both teams return to action Saturday. Stoney Creek hosts the Wentworth Gryphins at Stoney Creek Arena at 6:30 p.m., while Dundas travels to face the St. Catharines Saints at Merritton Centennial Arena at 7:30 p.m. in a game with significant playoff implications.
