Knight In Shinning Tigers Colours

When the Wentworth Gryphins and Stoney Creek Tigers faceoff against each other, it is one that you don’t you dare miss, and Saturday night’s contest at the Gateway Ice Centre was another. On this night, it was another back-and-forth contest with the Tigers’ Joel Knight scoring late in the third for the victory.

Alex Hutchings opened the scoring on the night for Wentworth, collecting goals at 4:39 and 6:50 of the first period for the early 2-0 lead. However, before the period ended, Cole Poliziani and Mike Ruberto scored for the Tigers to send the teams to the dressing rooms even at two.

In the second, the teams combined for five goals. Tyler Rollo regained the lead for the Gryphins just prior to the halfway mark of the game but Knight evened it up once again just over a minute later. Matt Hore and Kyle Lewis then rattled off goals for the visiting Gryphins to regain a two-goal lead before Dylan Madge made it a one-goal game again for Stoney Creek.

The final frame would see the Tigers tie up the score again on Roberto’s second goal of the game. The score remained that way until late in the period when Knight scored his second of the game, and the game winner, followed by an insurance marker by Cordell James into an empty net.

Danie Svedin got the win in the Stoney Creek goal crease, making 39 saves on the night while Matt Camilleri took the loss, stopping 45 shots.

Next up for the Wentworth Gryphins is a home and home series this coming week with the Dundas Real McCoys. It will start Thursday night at the Harry Howell Arena and then shift to the J.L. Grightmire Arena on Friday. Puck drop each night is 7:30pm.
