Lomas Leads Gryphins to 10-5 Victory Over Saints

Wentworth hosted the St. Catharines Saints on Thursday evening at the Harry Howell Arena, skating to a commanding 10-5 victory. Michael Lomas, Alex Hutchings, and Ryan Foss each netted a pair of goals for the Gryphins, while David Pacan led the Saints with a goal and three assists.

The Gryphins wasted no time, opening the scoring just 1:14 into the game on Tyler Vankleef's seventh of the season. Hutchings doubled the lead less than three minutes later. Kyle Lewis extended Wentworth's advantage to 3-0 late in the period with his seventh goal of the year at 17:28, but Troy McLean got St. Catharines on the board with 71 seconds remaining in the frame.

Cody Freeman pulled the Saints back within one just 3:55 into the second period, but the Gryphins responded with five unanswered goals. Hutchings notched his second on the power play at 5:29, followed 30 seconds later by Matt MacLeod's fifth goal of the night. Foss, Lomas, and Reid Yochim all found the net over a six-minute span, extending Wentworth's lead to 8-2. Ryan Donovan stemmed the tide with his ninth goal of the campaign with just over four minutes left in the period.

Both teams traded goals in the final frame, with Foss and Lomas scoring at 51 seconds and 3:40 respectively. Pacan and Freeman responded for St. Catharines at 3:58 and 10:41.
