Magwood and Hornets Buzz Past Dundas

Zach Magwood made a statement in his ACHL debut on Friday night, scoring the Cambridge Hornets’ first goal of the season and the game’s last, and adding a pair of assists in between. His four-point night powered the Hornets to a 7-3 victory over the Dundas Real McCoys at Galt Arena Gardens.

Cambridge struck twice in the first two minutes of the contest, with Magwood and Nick Giamou scoring 33 seconds apart. The Real McCoys answered with goals from Darien Kielb and Dan LaPointe to even the score at two after one period. The Hornets regained the lead in the second on a goal from Tyler Copeland at 9:18.

Dundas tied the game again early in the third on a goal from Danny Attridge at 2:59, but Cambridge took control from there. Kolton Maguire scored the eventual game winner at 11:51, and Brady Schwindt, Liam Little and Magwood added three more in the final 2:11.

Maguire (1G, 1A) and Dan Brewer (2A) were the only other Hornets with multiple points.

Marc Williams earned the win for Cambridge, stopping 34 of 37 shots. Dundas’ Mike Mole took the loss, allowing seven goals on 41 shots.

Both teams are back in action Saturday night. The Hornets play their first road game of the season, visiting the Stoney Creek Tigers at Stoney Creek Arena at 6:30pm. Dundas heads to St. Catharines to face the Saints at Merritton Centennial Arena at 7:30pm.
