Sole possession of third place was on the line when the Real McCoys and Hornets took to the ice at the Galt Arena Gardens in Cambridge on Friday night. On this night it was the visitors from Dundas who walked away with the 3-1 victory.
Phil Brewer got the only goal of the opening period at the 6:36 mark to give Dundas the early lead. Mackenzie Wood added to the lead with a goal, which turned out to be the game winner, at 2:54 of the second period with his fifth of the season. Ralph Taggart rounded out the scoring for the McCoys with 2:46 left in the middle stanza.
The Hornets lone goal of the contest would come at the 11:49 mark of the second when Kolton Maguire notched his first goal of the year.
With the win, Dundas moves to 4-3-0 on the season, three points ahead of Cambridge (3-8-0-0) in the standings.
Mike Mole earned his second straight win in the McCoys crease, stopping all but one of the 40 shots he faced in the contest. Marc Williams took the loss, while making 33 saves.
Dundas will next play on Thursday December 4th when they travel to Flamborough to take on the Wentworth Gryphins at the Harry Howell Arena starting at 7:30pm. The next night the McCoys will host the Cambridge Hornets at the J.L. Grightmire Arena, also starting at 7:30pm.
