On Friday night, the Dundas Real McCoys hosted the St. Catharines Saints who were looking to avenge the drubbing they got in their last visit to the J.L. Grightmire Arena. It was a closely contested game with the visiting Saints coming away with a one goal victory.
It didn’t take long for the first goal to hit the scoreboard as Justin Brack found the back of the net for St. Catharines just 32 seconds after the opening puck drop. That goal stood up for about six minutes when Simon Mangos scored for the Real McCoys which was followed up by Mackenzie Wood’s seventh of the season at 12:09 of the period. The Saints would even up the score at two with 3:27 left in the first with Brenden Morin scoring his first of the year.
In the second, St. Catharines once again scored early in the frame, and regaining a one-goal lead on Brack’s second of the game and fourth of the season. Dundas would once again tie up the game with Phil Brewer bulging the twine at 9:30. The Saints would take the lead for good on David Pacan’s power play marker at 16:45 of the middle stanza.
St. Catharines went up by two goals in the third when Morin picked up his second goal of the game which turned out to be the game winner. Wood finished up the scoring in the contest with 73 seconds left in regulation to get the McCoys within one.
Liam Stevenson picked up the victory in the Saints net, stopping 32 of 36 shots he faced. In the Dundas crease, Dan Davies took the loss, allowing five goals on 24 shots.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday night when they finish up the home and home weekend series with the scene shifting to the Merritton Centennial Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
