After having their home game postponed due to a snowstorm, the Wentworth Gryphins came into Friday night’s game fresh and put on a show in the second period. They would score six times in the frame to defeat the Dundas Real McCoys 7-3. Tyler VanKleef has a four-point night (2G, 2A), while teammates Remy Giftopoulos and Matt MacLeod each had a goal and two assists.

Michael Lomas got the scoring underway in the second period for Wentworth, notching his ninth of the season at the 5:46 mark. Just over a minute later, Nolan Sheeran tied the game up at one for the the McCoys. However, the Gryphins would score the next six goals over the final 8:12 of the middle frame, three of which came 74 seconds apart coming from MacLeod, VanKleef and Kyle Lewis in that span. VanKleef would get his second with 4:47 remaining in the period and Alex Hutchings added his league leading 13th of the season at 17:38.

Dundas would push back in the third, but the two goals were not enough to get them back into it. Nathan Longpre and Cameron Hatziioannou would get those goals for the home side. The Gryphins’ Giftopoulos rounded out the scoring with 51 seconds left on the clock.

Joe Murdaca picked up the win for Wentworth, making 36 saves on the night. Brett Leggat took the loss in the McCoys net, allowing 7 goals on 37 shots.

Both teams will faceoff once again on Thursday January 22nd when the scene shifts to the Harry Howell Arena with the puck drop scheduled for 7:30pm. Before that though, Dundas will hit the road to face the Stoney Creek Tigers on Saturday night at the Stoney Creek Arena starting at 6:30pm.
