Senior Hockey History Made
On Sunday afternoon, history was made in Senior hockey as the Stoney Creek Tigers (Allan Cup Hockey League) faced off against the Minto 81’s (Ontario Elite Hockey League) in a cross leagues and divisions game for the first time ever. Stoney Creek, the defending Robertson Cup Champions (AAA), and the 81’s, the defending OEHL Cup Champions (AA), battled back and forth on the score sheet, but it was the Tigers coming away with the win by a final score of 4-3.
It was Minto who would open the scoring in the contest, with Steve Grant scoring late in the first period. Then just over four minutes into the middle stanza, Jeff Dinallo evened the score for the Tigers. That was until Cole Pellet regained the lead for the 81s in front of the home crowd. However, that lead only lasted four and a half minutes before Cole Poliziani tied it up with 67 seconds left in the period.
In the third period, Bo Webster scored twice to give Stoney Creek the victory. Sandwiched between the Webster goals was Caleb Warren’s tally for Minto.
Tymen Edelkoort picked up the victory for the Tigers, while Johnathan Reinhart took the loss but had an impressive showing in the 81’s crease.
The Tigers and Minto will faceoff once again on Saturday January 18th, this time at the Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek starting at 6:30pm.
ACHL action will resume a week prior to that game when the Tigers host the Dundas Real McCoys on January 11th.
