Stoney Creek Claws Past Allan Cup Challenge Hosts

In their first game of the 2026 Allan Cup Challenge, the Stoney Creek Tigers faced off against the Conception Bay Senior Blues, the hosts of this year's event. The Tigers got a pair of goals from all-time ACHL points leader Mike Ruberto on their way to a 3-2 victory.

Ruberto opened the scoring just before the halfway mark of the first period, giving Stoney Creek the early lead. However, just over two minutes later, the Blues struck to even the score at one on Cole Gosse's goal at 11:35.

The game remained tied well into the second period before Cameron Sault found the back of the net on the power play to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead with 5:11 remaining in the frame.

In the third, Stoney Creek struck off the opening faceoff as Ruberto scored his second of the game just 25 seconds into the period to push his team's lead to two goals. Conception Bay would get back within one later in the period when Kyle Tibbo converted on the power play at 13:56. The Blues continued to pressure for the equalizer down the stretch, but the Tigers were able to weather the storm and hold on for the 3-2 victory.

Daniel Svedin picked up the win in the Tigers' cage, turning aside 36 of 38 shots he faced. At the other end of the ice, Matthew Jenkins took the loss for Conception Bay, allowing three goals on 34 shots.

Stoney Creek will next be in action Monday afternoon as they write another chapter in their rivalry with the Wentworth Gryphins. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
