Dundas would lead for the majority of Friday night’s contest at the J.L. Grightmire Arena, but it was the Stoney Creek Tigers would score four unanswered goals for an overtime victory over the Real McCoys. Cordell James would lead the way for the visiting Tigers, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist while Dundas would get a goal and an assist from Mackenzie Wood and captain Simon Mangos.
The McCoys would open the scoring at the halfway mark of the opening period on Mangos’ fourth of the season. Dundas extended the lead to 2-0 with 84 seconds left in the first when Wood found the back of the net. However, 33 seconds later, Marc Silvestri got Stoney Creek on the board and cut the Dundas lead in half.
In the second period, Dundas got goals from Ralph Taggart and Shane Conacher for a 4-1 lead, but the lead was cut in half again when James picked up his first goal of the contest for the Tigers.
Stoney Creek would get within one when James scored at 3:22 of the third and then even the game at 7:04 when Bo Webster was able to get one past Mike Mole. The teams battled the rest of the way but could not score a game winner in regulation.
Both squads had chances to win the game in overtime, but it appeared the game was heading to the first shootout of the 2024-25 ACHL season. That is until Mike Ruberto scored with 17 seconds remaining on the clock, giving the Tigers the victory.
Both goaltenders would face 59 shots on the night, but it was Daniel Svedin who earned his third win of the season in his fifth start, making 55 saves. At the other end of the ice, Mole would make one less save than Svedin, taking the loss.
Both teams will compete next week against the Wentworth Gryphins to close out the regular season. Dundas will host the Gryphins on Friday night at the J.L..Grightmire Arena starting at 7:30pm, then the next night the Tigers will host Wentworth at Gateway Ice Centre starting at 6:30pm.
