Stoney Creek Hangs On For 4-3 Victory
The last Friday night tilt of 2025 saw the Cambridge Hornets hosting the Stoney Creek Tigers at the Galt Arena Gardens. Cambridge looked to get back to their winning ways in the contest and get their first victory against the Tigers who had won the last four meetings.
The Hornets got off to a good start, getting the games opening goal 1:28 into the game with Kyle Campbell netting his third goal of the season.
However, from there Stoney Creek took full control of the game, scoring four straight goals. The first came from Mitchell Reid at 11:57 of the first, followed by Cole Poliziani at 16:52, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Poliziani would score the lone goal of the middle period on the power play at 13:13 to take a 3-1 lead.
In the third, Dominik Crnogorac scored on the power play, which was the eventual game winning goal, at 2:16.
Cambridge did push back to get back into the contest. Taylor Doherty scored his first of the season 26 seconds after Crnogorac, to get back with in a pair. Jason Pitton would get the Hornets back with in one with 1:42 remaining in regulation but Cambridge was unable to get one more into the back of the Stoney Creek net.
Matt Sagrott picked up his league leading sixth victory in the Tigers net making 31 saves on the night. For Mason Kameka in the Hornets net, he was bombarded with 52 shots, saving 48 of them.
Stoney Creek (8-1-0-1) now sits just one point back of the Wentworth Gryphins (9-3-0-0) in the standings with two games in hand while the Hornets are in fifth place with a 3-12-0-0 record, three points back of the St. Catharines Saints (4-5-0-1).
The Tigers will use up one of their games in hand on Saturday night when they host the Saints at the Stoney Creek Arena starting at 6:30pm on Teddy Bear Toss Night. Cambridge will get a long break as they won’t take the ice again for game action until Friday, January 16th when they host St. Catharines.
