Third Period Outburst Leads To Tigers Win

Tigers heading to the bench, celebrating a goal

Stoney Creek took advantage of their extra day off from the snowstorm this week to defeat a Dundas Real McCoys team who was playing on back-to-back night. The Tigers would use a five-goal outburst in the final 2o-minutes of play to pick up the 7-3 win. Cordel James led Stoney Creek with a goal and four assists while Josh Pietrantonio had three goals, and an assist and Mike Ruberto had a four-point night.

Pietrantonio got the lone first period goal for the Tigers at the 3:12 mark of the opening period and extended the lead to two 8:33 into the second period. The McCoys would get back within a goal with 1:42 left in the second frame when Paul Cianfini took advantage of the late power play.

In the third, Ruberto and Dylan Madge each scored in the first 1:14 to make it 4-1 for Stoney Creek. Dundas would claw back to within a goal once again on Holden Doggett’s fifth and sixth goals of the season. However, Pietrantonio made sure the McCoys wouldn’t get any closer as he completed the hat-trick with 6:52 left in the game.

Stoney Creek would get two more goals in the latter stages of the game. The first came on a penalty shot which Dominik Crnogorac converted at 15:30. James completed the scoring in the game 37 seconds later.

Daniel Svedin picked up the 49 save victory for the Tigers. It would be his 66th career ACHL win, which puts him one win away from tying Brett Leggat for second place. Ryan DeMelo took the loss in the Dundas net, allowing seven goals on 37 shots.

The McCoys will be back in action on Thursday night when they head to the Harry Howell Arena to face the Wentworth Gryphins. Then the next night they will host Stoney Creek at the J.L. Grightmire Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7:30pm puck drops.
