Stoney Creek roared out to a three-goal lead before the Dundas Real McCoys started a late comeback. However, the Robertson Cup champion Tigers held on to defeat Dundas and ruin the home opening celebrations at the J.L. Grightmire Arena on Friday night.
The Tigers scored twice in an eight-second span in the first for a 2-0 on goals from Cole Poliziani, his second of the season, and Jordan Gignac, his fifth of the year. Before the opening period came to an end, Mitchell Reid picked up his first of the campaign and give Stoney Creek a commanding lead.
In the second, it was the home side McCoys who erased the donut on their side of the scoreboard thanks to Alex Ojero’s first goal.
The score remained 3-1 until the just past the halfway point of the third when Ralph Taggart scored his second of the season and brought Dundas within a goal of the Tigers. However, with 38-seconds remaining in regulation, Cordell James’ fifth of the year put the game away for Stoney Creek.
Tymen Edelkoort made 39 saves on the night, helping the Tigers to the victory while Mike Mole took the loss, stopping 26 of 30 shots.
Stoney Creek is back in action on Saturday night on home ice at the Gateway Ice Centre, hosting the Wentworth Gryphins starting at 6:30pm. The next action for the McCoys is a home and home series with the Gryphins starting on Thursday December 12th at the Harry Howell Arena.
