Tigers End Losing Streak With Win Over Dundas

It took five games, but the Stoney Creek Tigers finally captured their first win of 2025 on Saturday night when they defeated the Dundas Real McCoys 7-1 at the Gateway Ice Centre. Tommy Sumi was the lone player to pick up multiple goals on the night while Cordell James scored once and added three assists in the victory.

It was all Tigers in the first period as Mike Ruberto, Jordan Gignac and Sumi all found the back of the net. Matt Ruberto would extend the lead to 4-0 1:30 into the second period before Slatter Doggett got the McCoys on the board at 1:53. Late in the middle frame, Cole Poliziani would regain the four-goal lead for Stoney Creek.

The home side would go on to add two more goals in the final 20 minutes with James scoring on a puck that glanced off netminder Ryan DeMelo’s glove before entering the net and Sumi scoring off the bar.

Daniel Svedin picked up the win, making 41 stops on the night while DeMelo allowed seven goals on 42 shots.

With the win the Tigers have clinched at least second place in the regular season.

Stoney Creek will complete their home schedule on Saturday January 15th when they host the Wentworth Gryphins at the Gateway Ice Centre. The Real McCoys will be back in action on Friday January 21st when they host the Tigers at the J. L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas.
