Tigers Hang On For Win Over Cambridge
On Saturday evening the Cambridge Hornets and Stoney Creek Tigers did battle at the Stoney Creek Arena for the second time, and their third meeting of the season. Like their last meeting, the teams pushed each other to the limit with the Tigers holding on for a 4-3 win.
The team from the Creek struck first with Cordell James scoring at 6:21 of the first period beating Mason Kameka low on the glove side. Dan Poliziani would extend the home team’s lead to 2-0 just over two minutes later. It would take just take 88 seconds for Cambridge to respond and cut the Stoney Creek in half on Chad Herron’s second of the year, collecting a rebound which he jammed in.
The Tigers regained their two-goal lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the opening period when Josh Ranalli found the back of the net.
In the second, Kyle Heffernan made it a one goal game once again, taking a cross-ice pass from Alex Mourani and putting it into the open side of the cage. However, Poliziani would sneak down from the blue line and put the puck into the top corner for his second of the game to put the Tigers up 4-2.
The third period saw Cambridge put the pressure on the Tigers who would get within one at 12:32 of the frame with Heffernan scoring his sixth of the year and second of the contest getting the Hornets within a goal. While the Hornets kept the pressure on, they were unable to get the equalizer and Stoney Creek held on for the win.
Daniel Svedin picked up the win, making 32 saves in the contest for the Tigers while the Hornets’ Mason Kameka took the loss, allowing four goals on 37 shots.
Stoney Creek will look to keep the home winning streak going in their next game on Saturday November 22nd when they host the Wentworth Gryphins starting at 6:30pm at the Stoney Creek Arena. Two days earlier, on Thursday, Cambridge will head to Flamborough to face Wentworth starting at 7:30pm at the Harry Howell Arena.
