Tigers Hold Off Resilient Saints for 5-2 Road Victory

Dylan Madge's two-goal performance and a pair of late empty-netters helped the Stoney Creek Tigers secure a 5-2 road victory over the St. Catharines Saints on Saturday night at Merritton Centennial Arena. While the final score suggests a comfortable win, the Saints battled hard throughout, keeping the game close until the final minutes.

The Tigers struck first when Paul Geiger opened the scoring at 3:50 of the first period, giving Stoney Creek a 1-0 lead they would carry into the intermission.

The Saints answered back early in the second period as Justin Brack buried his ninth goal of the season just 2:11 into the frame on the power play, knotting the game at one. The score remained tied for most of the period before Mike Ruberto broke the deadlock with 2:14 remaining in the middle frame, putting the Tigers back in front.

Madge extended Stoney Creek's advantage to 3-1 at 3:25 of the third period, but St. Catharines refused to go quietly. Matthew Thorpe scored his first goal of the year nearly six minutes later, pulling the Saints back within one.

St. Catharines pushed hard for the equalizer in the dying minutes but couldn't solve Tigers netminder Matt Sagrott. With the Saints' net empty in the final moments, Madge completed his two-goal night before Cole Poliziani added another insurance marker to seal the 5-2 victory.

Sagrott earned his league-leading eighth win of the season for Stoney Creek, while Saints goaltender Micucci took the loss despite allowing just three goals before the empty-netters.

The Saints will look to bounce back Thursday night when they visit the Wentworth Gryphons at Harry Howell Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm. The Tigers return home to Stoney Creek Arena on Saturday to host the Dundas Real McCoys at 6:30 pm.
