Tigers Roar Late, Down McCoys 6–3

Stoney Creek Tigers hold a pre-game ceremony

Stoney Creek extended their perfect home winning streak to 9-0 on Saturday evening, defeating the shorthanded Dundas Real McCoys 6-3 at home. Despite playing with a depleted roster, the McCoys kept the contest competitive until the final frame, when the Tigers pulled away with three third-period goals to secure their 13th victory of the season.

Dundas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just past the midway point of the opening period. Ralph Taggart opened the scoring for the visitors at 10:26, before Trevor Atkinson capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity at 12:13. Stoney Creek responded with a late-period surge, as Josh Ranalli cut the deficit in half at 14:26, and Daniel Vella tied the game at 17:22, sending the teams to the first intermission deadlocked at two.

In the second period, Freddy Teeple broke the deadlock with his second goal of the season, which stood as the only tally of the frame. The Tigers carried a 3-2 lead into the final period.

Stoney Creek extended their lead to two goals at 6:27 of the final period when Josh Pietrantonio scored his 12th of the campaign. Dundas answered back as Tim Carr tallied his first goal of the year, pulling the McCoys back within one. The score remained 4-3 until late in the contest, when the Tigers put the game away with a pair of insurance markers from Teeple and Ranalli just 15 seconds apart.

Between the pipes, Daniel Svedin earned his sixth win of the season for Stoney Creek, turning aside 20 of 23 shots. Mike Mole suffered the loss for Dundas despite a busy night that saw him face 39 shots.

The two teams will meet for the final time this regular season on Friday, February 6th at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
