Tigers Stymie Gryphins

Stoney Creek and Wentworth faced off Saturday night at Stoney Creek Arena with significant implications in the race for top spot in the Allan Cup Hockey League standings. Dylan Madge scored his 14th goal of the season—the game winner—while Daniel Svedin stopped 34 shots, propelling the Tigers to their seventh consecutive win and extending their lead over the Gryphins to nine points in the standings.

The teams played an even opening period, but Stoney Creek struck first on the power play with just milliseconds left on the clock in the period, with Cordell James netting his tenth goal of the season.

The Tigers extended their lead in the second period with two goals. Madge opened the scoring in the middle frame at 6:58, making it 2-0. Joel Knight then recorded his first goal of the season at 17:47, giving the home side a three-goal cushion heading into the intermission.

In the third period, Stoney Creek continued their offensive onslaught, stretching their lead to 5-0 on goals by Cole Poliziani and Mike Ruberto. Kyle Lewis broke up the shutout bid with 4:35 remaining, converting on the power play to make it 5-1.

Svedin earned his seventh win of the season and 69th career ACHL victory, moving within two of Dundas netminder Mike Mole's league record. The Stoney Creek goaltender stopped 33 of 34 shots in the victory. Matthew Camilleri took the loss despite making 30 saves. The margin could have been wider, but Camilleri kept his team in the game with several acrobatic saves.

The Tigers hit the road Friday, February 13th, visiting the Cambridge Hornets at Galt Arena Gardens for an 8:00 p.m. start. Wentworth also plays February 13th, traveling to J.L. Grightmire Arena to face the Dundas Real McCoys at 7:30 p.m.
