Vankleef And Gryphins Down Dundas

Tyler Vankleef picked up a hat trick on Thursday night, helping the Wentworth Gryphins to a 9-6 win over the Dundas Real McCoys. Vankleef was the only Gryphins player to score multiple games in the game while Tim Carr scored twice for the McCoys.

It was the McCoys that would strike first, getting on the board 74 seconds into the game thanks to Liam Jacobs’ first goal of the season. From there, the Gryphins scored three times to close out the opening period with Tyler Rollo, David Miller and Riley MacRae all being credited with goals for a 3-1 lead.

Wentworth kept on filling the net in the second, getting goals from Marc Anthony Simonetta, Vankleef and Mark Silvestri for a commanding five-goal lead. Dundas would get one back when Trevor Atkinson found the back of the net at 11:02, however, Vankleef got that one back five minutes later.  The McCoys then got themselves back within a pair of goals on goals from Simon Mangos, Carr and Slatter Doggett.

In the third, Dundas made it a one-goal game just 2:05 into the period on Carr’s second of the game and the season. But Vankleef completed the hat trick just over a minute later, giving Wentworth some insurance. Cory Conacher completed the scoring, netting his first of the year and giving the Gryphins a nine spot on home ice.

Dawson Carty picked up second win in as many starts, facing 27 shots on the night while Mike Mole took the loss, stopping 32 of 41 shots.

The teams will face each other once again on Friday December 13^th to complete the schedule prior to the Christmas break. The scene will shift to the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas and will get underway at 7:30pm. Admission for this game will be free, but the McCoys will be collecting monetary donations for Keaton’s House – Paul Paletta Children’s Hospice and toys for the CHCH Toy Drive. All donations will be collected at the door.
