Wentworth Blows Past Saints

St. Catharines Saints played host to the league leading Wentworth Gryphins on Saturday night at the Merritton Centennial Arena. The Gryphins would explode for 11 goals in the contest, winning their second game in a row and ending the Saints winning streak.

Akex Hutchings and Matt MacLeod would do all the damage for Wentworth in the first period with each scoring a pair of goals for a 4-0 lead. Michael Lomas extended the Gryphins lead 44 seconds into the second period before Greg Wilson got St. Catharines on the board. However, Dylan Bahr got that goal back for Wentworth at 10:09 of the middle stanza, followed six seconds later by David Miller to make it 7-1 for the visitors.

In the third, the Gryphins doubled up the Saints 4-2 in the period alone. Brett Flamming, Marc-Anthony Simonetta, Tyler Vankleef and Miller all added to the lead. St. Catharines would get goals from Wilson and Ryan Donovan in the final frame.

Hutchings would end the game with four points to extend his lead in the league scoring race while teammate Ryan Foss collected five assists.

Joe Murdaca picked up the victory for Wentworth while Matthew Lopinski took the loss for the Saints.

The next action for the Gryphins in back on home ice at the Harry Howell Arena on Thursday, December 11th against the Stoney Creek Tigers who sit two points back in the standings. For St. Catharines, they head to Dundas to face the Real McCoys at the J.L. Grightmire Arena on Friday, December 12th. Games both nights are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
