Wentworth Dominates Game 2 Against Saints

Game Two of the ACHL semi-finals between the St. Catharines Saints and the Wentworth Gryphins was played at the Harry Howell Arena on Thursday night, with the Gryphins putting in a dominant performance to take a commanding 2-0 series lead with an 8-3 win. Matt MacLeod had a goal and an assist for Wentworth, while teammate Elijah Roberts found the back of the net three times.

The Gryphins came out like a house on fire, scoring four straight goals in the first ten minutes and thirty seconds. Brett Flemming got the scoring underway nearly two minutes into the contest. Nearly three minutes later, Michael Lomas made it 2-0, and Robert Wormald scored at 8:40 to push the lead to 3-0. Roberts collected his first of the game at 10:29, giving Wentworth a four-goal cushion. Before the period could end, however, David Pacan scored his first of the postseason for St. Catharines with 2:34 remaining on the clock.

In the second, Roberts and Alex Hutchings each scored their third of the playoffs, giving the home side a commanding 6-1 lead. Niki Petti would cut the Wentworth lead in half, scoring at 11:57 and 18:36 of the middle frame to make it a 6-3 game heading into the final period.

The third period saw the teams get a little heated, with all 22 minutes of penalties of the game called in the stanza. The Gryphins capitalized on the power play when MacLeod scored at 3:39, and Roberts capped off the hat trick at the 12-minute mark to seal the 8-3 victory.

Matthew Camilleri was steady throughout for Wentworth, stopping 28 of 31 shots to earn the win. Trevor Micucci turned aside 30 shots for St. Catharines in the loss.
