Wentworth Doubles Up McCoys

A night after holding off a comeback from the Dundas Real McCoys, the Wentworth Gryphins put a ten spot up against the McCoys on the road. Leading the way was Cory Conacher who scored twice and added four assists in the victory.

Wentworth jumped out to 2-0 lead before the halfway point of the opening period with Mike Lomas scoring at 4:58 and Matt MacLeod finding the back of the net at 8:05. Paul Cianfini would get the Real McCoys back within a goal, but Conacher would get that back for the Gryphins 49 seconds later. Before the buzzer sounded to end the first, Liam Jacobs scored for Dundas to cut the deficit to one once again.

In the second, Simon Mangos got the home side back even with Wentworth on his second of the season. However, the Gryphins would score five unanswered goals in the frame from Kyle Lewis, Tyler Rollo, Conacher, Alex Hutchings and Remy Giftopoulos.

The final period saw the teams trade a pair of goals with MacLeod and Rollo scored their second goals of the game while Igor Gongalsky and Riley O’Connell picked up markers for the McCoys.

Matt Camilleri earned the win for the Gryphins, stopping 30 of 35 shots while Mike Mole took the loss, making 34 saves on the night.

Both teams head into the holiday break and will not compete again until the new year. Dundas will be in action first when they head to Stoney Creek on January 11th to face the Tigers. The Gryphins will return to action on January 17th when they head back to the J.L. Grightmire Arena to take on Dundas.
