Wentworth Sweep Saints, Return to Robertson Cup Finals

The Wentworth Gryphins are headed back to the ACHL J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals to defend their title after sweeping the St. Catharines Saints in their semi-final series, clinching it with a dominant 7-2 victory in the Garden City on Saturday night. The penalty-filled affair saw Kevin Harvey and Riley MacRae each score a pair for the Gryphins, while David Pacan accounted for both Saints goals.

Fans had barely enough time to settle in following the anthem before the Saints had them on their feet again, as Pacan scored just 35 seconds into the contest to give St. Catharines the early lead. The home side kept the pressure on throughout the opening period, outshooting the Gryphins 12-6, and held that 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

Pacan doubled up St. Catharines' lead at 7:52 of the second period with a power play marker. But the lead was cut in half just over 90 seconds later when MacRae scored his first of the night for Wentworth. The Gryphins drew even at the 12:51 mark on Kyle Lewis' second goal of the postseason, sending both teams to the dressing room wondering who would emerge as the hero in the final frame.

The third period belonged to the Gryphins, who took full control by scoring five times. Alex Hutchings netted the eventual winner on the power play just 32 seconds into the period — his fourth of the playoffs. MacRae added an insurance marker 64 seconds later, and the rout was on. Kevin Harvey then scored twice, including one with the man advantage, while Tyler Hore rounded out the scoring for the 7-2 final.

In goal, Matthew Camilleri picked up the victory, turning aside 34 of the 36 shots he faced. At the other end, Trevor Micucci was peppered with 43 shots, stopping 36 in the loss.

This will mark the third consecutive championship series between the Wentworth Gryphins and Stoney Creek Tigers, with the two clubs splitting the previous two titles. In addition to facing each other in the Finals, both teams will represent Ontario and the Allan Cup Hockey League at the 2026 Allan Cup Challenge Tournament, to be held in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, from April 19–26.

The schedule for the championship series will be announced in the coming days.
