Wilson's Late Heroics Lift Hornets Past Saints

Brett Wilson scored the game-winning goal with 77 seconds remaining and added an assist, lifting the Cambridge Hornets to a 4-3 victory over the St. Catharines Saints on Friday night. The win was Cambridge's third in their last four games, while St. Catharines dropped their fourth consecutive contest.

The Saints opened the scoring at 9:23 of the first period on Travis Houle's second goal of the season. St. Catharines extended their lead to two when David Pacan tallied his 14th of the year at 7:37 of the second period. Steve MacAulay cut the deficit in half with 4:14 remaining in the frame, putting Cambridge on the board.

Yianni Skropolis tied the game at two for the Hornets just 1:41 into the third period. Taylor Doherty gave Cambridge their first lead nearly four minutes later, but Cody Tapsell answered just 38 seconds later with his first goal of the season to knot the score at three.

With the game seemingly headed to overtime, Wilson netted his ninth of the season to secure the victory for the Hornets.

Marc Williams stopped 34 shots to earn the win, while Devon Popp made 46 saves in the losing effort for St. Catharines.

The Saints return home Saturday for a crucial matchup against the Dundas Real McCoys at Merritton Centennial Arena at 7:30 p.m. Cambridge is idle for the remainder of the weekend before hosting the Stoney Creek Tigers on Friday, February 13th at Galt Arena Gardens at 8:00 p.m.
